Sigal's Australia Gap Year

featuring Sigal MalakaMarch 2026

about this guide

Sigal spent a good portion of her gap year in Australia. She flew into Perth, took a four hour bus south into Western Australia, and spent time in places most people have never heard of, untouched beaches, no crowds, dramatic coastlines. Then she made her way to Sydney. If you love nature, sunsets, and finding spots that feel completely off the map, this one's for you.

Sigal's Tips
tip 01

Drive and follow the sunset. Some of the best moments of my trip were when we stopped navigating and just followed whichever road looked like it had a view. You'll find things you never would have planned.

tip 02

Rent a car — you need one for Western Australia. Just know you drive on the other side of the road. Found a sketchy place that rents to 18 year olds, so it's doable.

tip 03

Plan your day around sunsets. Sunset swims are a must. The sunsets in Western Australia are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Build your day around them.

tip 04

Research on socials. My whole strategy for finding new things was searching "day in the life" videos on TikTok for wherever I was going. Way better than Google.

tip 05

Take the ferry at sunset. The ferry goes right past the Opera House. If you go at sunset you get the full view. Do it.
